Grade 2* Listed Cottage
This decaying early C16 Grade 2* Listed cottage had been temporarily roofed with corrugated iron.
We retained the original roof timbers - which were partly rotten and structurally compromised - by inserting a new structure to take the loading of conservation grade handmade clay peg tiles.
Blocked-up former windows were re-opened, with facsimile timber sashes. Existing joinery was carefully repaired and the lime plaster retained and patched using an appropriate lime mix with judiciously selected Somersham sand.
Building at Risk
This rambling C18 Listed building had been ignored by its owners for 40 years. The building lapsed into disrepair with extensive decay and structural failure which culminated in it being placed on the Buildings At Risk Register.
We undertook major structural repair and general restoration, which included the re-covering of the various different roofs in Welsh slate with lead valleys, reclaimed peg tiles and a copper canopy.
